The ‘ulama are the guardians of the religion of a people. It is inspiring to see the young ‘ulama, who went to the corners of the earth to bring the knowledge of this deen back to their people, working together to establish the commands of the Qur’an in people’s hearts and revive the spirit of the sunnah in their communities. Darul Hikmah is more than just a retreat or some classes. It is a fortress by which Allah is guarding Islam in Chicago.

A fortress is something built to last. Alhamdulillah, when I had the pleasure of attending the Winter Retreat in November of 2008, I saw young, thoughtful, articulate, ‘ulama addressing the concerns, hopes, needs, and aspirations of a generation of young Muslims in an idiom that they can understand and a mode that they can relate to.

All of this in an atmosphere of spirituality, asceticism, brotherhood, hope, and the light that can only come from treading the path of the Messenger of Allah, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I saw a mighty fortress from which, by the grace of Allah, the deen that lives in the hearts of the believers, young and old, can never be assailed.,/p>

Allah Ta’ala inspires individuals and establishes institutes that meet the needs of a particular community. History has borne testimony to this were Darul Uloom Deoband became the fountain of guidance for a thirsty generation decades ago.

The pillars of that institute were in reality not columns of stone, but “Men of Allah” the likes of which the world yearns for today. And whilst the institute and its servants may be macro examples of beacons that Allah Ta’ala sends, even in our part of the world, rays of those beacons are evident. Darul Hikmah, in my eyes, is a living example of that ray.

Since its inception, the organization has made a sincere effort to introduce the Deen in its pristine form to the youth of America. Utilizing unique methods, within the perimeter of Sharia, the organization has had unprecedented success in connecting the young Muslim with his rich past in the hope of bettering his future.

I personally have had the divine opportunity to be part of 2 of Darul Hikmah’s retreats. The programmes and maja’lis, especially the interactive sessions with the scholars, reminds me of the gatherings of my student days with my teachers and mentors.

Darul Hikmah has created a forum wherein one can communicate with people of knowledge in a relaxed yet constructive environment. I am pleased that Darul Hikmah now offers an academy, where an individual has a chance to benefit from certain Deeni sciences, previously only available at tertiary institutes. In terms of outreach 101 to this generation, the organization is miles ahead in planning, strategy and results.

I am honoured to be associated with Darul Hikmah, its members, organizers and especially its scholars, all of whom are my senior in Ilm. I, for as long as I am able, will remain in its service. InshaAllah. May Allah preserve and reward all those who have contributed time, resources and du’as in this avenue and all the avenues of Deen. Ameen.

I had the opportunity to experience and see Darul Hikmah first hand when I spoke at a retreat in 2008. MashaAllah, I was impressed with what I saw, the program was excellently organized and well-attended.

In my humble opinion Darul Hikmah has established an environment that is conducive to spiritual rejuvenation and academic enrichment. They have succeeded at connecting the community with the local Scholars and Imams, while also providing a structure and platform for young local graduates of Islamic Institutions to start contributing and giving back to their communities.

Darul Hikmah is definitely a model and example for Scholars and Imams in other cities. I pray and hope to see Darul Hikmah grow and achieve greater things in the future.
