Programs and Projects

In order to best fulfill our goals in a manner conducive to contemporary and local conditions, Darul Hikmah organizes activities that cover a broad spectrum of objectives. Some programs, such as Darul Hikmah’s retreats, lectures, and recreational activities are focused principally on da‘wah and propagation. Other programs, such as the academies and educational seminars, focus on educating Muslims and providing them with a higher-level knowledge of Islam.

At the same time, acknowledging the importance of consistently developing ideal Muslim character, Darul Hikmah organizes regular programs through which Muslims can attend gatherings focused on the purification of the soul, the perfection of character, and the establishment of Muslim brotherhood.

Retreats

Darul Hikmah Retreats are three-day motivational i‘tikaf programs focused on the spiritual and moral needs of every Muslim. Retreats are preceded by a series of pre-retreat lectures conducted throughout the city and in various masjids. Intended for all, male and female, young and old, each program highlights the most pressing and fundamental religious issues of the day.

The speeches, workshops, and question-answer sessions that make up the events are conducted and supervised by traditionally-trained scholars of Islam. Interaction between attendees and guest scholars is highly emphasized and opportunities to sit, eat, and converse with the scholars are provided throughout the event. Attendance requires no registration fee.

Seminars

Darul Hikmah Seminars are three-day, weekend, educational workshops that address specific academic topics. Topics are selected according to the most pressing educational needs of the local Muslim community. A harmonious blend of traditional styles of teaching with innovative and modern methods of instruction makes the style employed by Darul Hikmah’s instructors rich and appealing.

While covering in-depth material, our seminars are designed to fit around both the working-man and student’s schedule. Attendance requires registration and an entrance fee. Darul Hikmah’s first seminar is scheduled for summer ’09 and will be exclusive to DH Academy students. General seminars open to the public are still in the works.

MSA Lecture Series

In conjunction with local MSA’s, Darul Hikmah helps to organize lectures series at universities during the fall and spring semesters of the academic school year. Meant to be both motivational and educational, Darul Hikmah’s lectures challenge young students to rethink their Muslim world view, broaden their knowledge of Islamic principles, and develop skills necessary to become productive and able citizens.

While the topics focus primarily on self-rectification and Islamic da‘wah, the aspect of satiating the Muslim student’s unquenchable thirst for knowledge is not neglected.  Admission is open for all and no fee is required. Students are encouraged to bring material to take sufficient notes.

Note: Lecture series are managed entirely by the MSAs. Darul Hikmah provides service in arranging for speakers and topics and marketing the programs. Specific details regarding a lecture series should be obtained from the respective MSAs.

Lectures

From time to time, Darul Hikmah organizes one-day lecture programs on a variety of important religious topics. Before the advent of the month of Ramadan, for example, a full evening program is arranged where local scholars explain the virtues, rulings, and spiritual benefits of the holy month.  Other programs, such as “New Muslim Experiences” or “An Evening with the Huffaz,” are meant to be informal and interactive sessions aimed at giving Muslims a chance to benefit and motivate fellow brothers and sisters in Islam.

Through these lectures, Darul Hikmah hopes to be able to help guide Muslim youth through both personal experiences and sound scholarship towards a life of piety and success. Past lectures have been conducted by visiting scholars from countries as far off as South Africa.

Academy

Darul Hikmah recognizes that the revival of Islam includes more than just motivational speeches and spiritual rectification. The revival of Islam requires sound knowledge and education. In an attempt to provide every Muslim with an opportunity to drink from the pool of authentic, traditional, Islamic knowledge, DH conducts weekly classes that focus on the needs of the high school/college student and the working adult.
